日本に生まれフィンランドで生活するアーティスト安藤悠。現在筑波大学に交換留学し版画を学んでいるフィンランドのアーティストEmilia Tanner。
日本とフィンランド両国の外交関係100年を記念する今年、安藤悠とEmilia Tannerは鳥取で共同作品展を行う。お互いの国と文化からの影響を反映させるために使う共通の媒体は紙だ。
1990年代、鳥取はフィンランドから製紙用パルプを輸入していた。更に鳥取とフィンランドの関連に関して言えば、2012年、2013年にヘルシンキで鳥取とフィンランドに関連した紙を使った民芸品などの展示も行われた。二人のアーティスト達は鳥取とフィンランドの歴史的、文化的な接点に興味を抱いた。
作品展『PAPER WEIGHT - 紙の重さ』は、鳥取市の「ギャラリーそら」で8月25日～9月4日開催される。8月26日にはフィンランドと日本の文化について、アーティスト達にフィンランドセンターのPasi Jarvinen氏も交えてパネルディスカッションが行われる。
アーティストについて：Emilia Tanner（1990年生まれ）はヘルシンキ美術大学で学び、美術学士を取得、現在は美術修士過程にある。安藤悠（1985年生まれ）は鳥取出身で、日本とフィンランドで自らの作品を展示する傍ら、フィンランドのアーティスト作品を山陰で企画
Yu Andoh is an artist born in Japan who lives and works in Finland. Emilia Tanner is a Finnish artist who is currently doing her exchange studies in the Printmaking Department in The University of Tsukuba.
To commemorate 100 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Finland Yu Andoh and Emilia Tanner have come together to exhibit their work in Tottori, Japan. To reflect the influences of each others countries and cultures the two artists used the common medium paper.
In the 1990's Tottori imported paper pulp from Finland and used to make paper from it. Further connection between Tottori and Finland was the Tottori - Finland folk art project including folk art made of paper, exhibited in Helsinki in 2012 and 2013. The two artists are interested in the historical and cultural connections between Tottori and Finland.
'PAPER WEIGHT - 紙の重さ' is held from August 25th to September 4th at Gallery Sora in Tottori City. We would like to invite you to a panel discussion on Finnish and Japanese culture with the artists and Pasi Jarvinen from the Finnish Institute in Japan on 25th of September.
About the artists: Emilia Tanner (b.1990) is studying in The University of Arts Helsinki where she received her BFA and is currently working on her MFA. Yu Ando (b.1985) originally from Tottori has been exhibiting his artworks in Japan and Finland and has been curating exhibitions with Finnish artists in the Tottori area.
